The fifth annual Design Science Lab is being held this summer, July 6-11, 2009 at the UN and the UN International School in New York. Students and young professionals from around the world will be briefed by UN experts and then learn and use a powerful design, planning, and problem solving methodology that is based on the work of Buckminster Fuller and other scientists and designers. After participants are briefed by UN experts from UNDP, UNEP, UNICEF, and other UN agencies, they develop designs and strategies for achieving one or more of the UN's Millennium Development Goals. This year the focus is on developing a blueprint for a global green economy.
Students work collaboratively and intensely for six days. Their work is presented to UN staff at the end of the Lab, as well as published in an annual report. Further details and registration information are at:http://www.designsciencelab.com You can also download reports from previous Labs as well as see a short movie that describes the work at this same address.
