Event Description

SPI 2010 is accepting applications starting November 2009 through January 8, 2010. The 15th annual Summer Peacebuilding Institute, will be held from May 10 to June 18 at Eastern Mennonite University in Harrisonburg, Virginia. Intended for people active in peacebuilding and related fields, SPI offers three 7-day sessions and one 5-day session, each with five or six intensive courses running concurrently, for academic credit or as professional training. Persons may apply for one or up to four courses.

SPI 2010 will offer courses of use to practitioners, students, and those interested in learning more about peacebuilding. There are courses in restorative justice, trauma awareness and healing, mediation, reconciliation, conflict analysis, research and theory. Several courses operate at the intersection of conflict transformation with a related field: development, environmental policy, human rights, identity, faith, and consensus-building.

Stimulating conversations with people in other courses and from various cultural and religious backgrounds in the U.S. and from over 50 countries expand the learning exponentially.

You may view and download Summer 2010 course offerings, schedules, instructor bios, estimated costs, and an application form at http://www.emu.edu/cjp/spi/

Applications must be made by January 8, 2010. Email spi@emu.edu with your questions or for help if you encounter difficulties in applying.
