What motivated you to become involved in peace and conflict resolution?
I can trace my passion for peace and conflict resolution to growing up in a multi ethnic Indian city which boasted of never having inter ethnic violence despite being a political hotbed with equal percentage of Muslims and hindus. Thus i realized that peace and conflict resolution could be achieved anywhere...one just has to create those conditions.
Please feel free to provide a short bio about yourself (no more than 3 paragraphs)
Masters in International Affairs from SIPA at Columbia University in New York...specialising in Human Rights and Conflict resolution. Passionate about peace building and genocide prevention specially in the area of ethnic or religious conflicts. Worked as a journalist in India's leading English daily and a project manager for many years before that. Also have masters degree in Journalism and International History.

I have a facebook group called the PEACEBUILDERS too...join me there too.

R2P simply means that the international community has a 'responsibility to protect' human beings in any part of the world, from genocide, massive human rights abuses and humanitarian crises, if their own Government is unable or unwilling to protect them. This humanitarian aid can be forced (through peaceful means or even an invasion) over the protests of the home government.

Recently Myanmar was hit by a deadly cyclone. Even as 22,000 Burmese were killed the military dictatorship of Burma (the… Continue

Labelization

This India trip was a series of arguments. I felt like a inept solitary ninja wielding my sword against a huge group of fighters closing in on me. The arguments centered around whether the 'Muslims in India are radicals'. The middle class educated Hindus i met seemed to be convinced that all Indian Muslims are on their way to become jihadis or terrorists!

Most of the arguments are something which one has heard since the time of ramjanmabhomi movement (they cheer for pakistan in cricket matches,… Continue

Why Do Humans Hate Peacemakers?

(note from Meha: An older blog which i wrote some time back..i just thought it is relevant for this site.)

He did not seem to be angry with people who killed other people, or with exploitation or racism or anything which he personally may have been a victim of. His greatest anger is reserved for the ‘activist’; who at the most may be indir… Continue
