Dr. Sohail Mahmood got his B.A. (Political Science) from Arizona State University, Tempe, AZ, US in 1979, his M.A. (International Studies) from Fairleigh Dickinson University, Teaneck, NJ, US, in 1981, and his Ph.D. with Honors (Political Science), Northern Arizona University, Flagstaff, AZ, US, 1993. Presently he is the chair and professor, Department of International Relations, National University of Modern Languages (NUML), Islamabad, Pakistan He was previously the professor and head of department of Politics & IR, International Islamic University, Islamabad. He was the Senior Research Scholar, Institute of Strategic Studies and Research Analysis, National Defense University, Islamabad from 2005-2006 and was Assistant Professor, Area Studies Center for Africa, North & South America, Quaid-i-Azam University, Islamabad from 2000-2002. He was the Consultant, UNDP/Good Governance Group Project, Government of Pakistan, Planning and Development Division, Islamabad from 1998-1999. He served as Lecturer/Assistant Professor, Department of Political Science, University of the Punjab, Lahore from 1984-2000.
He has authored nine books and monographs. The recent books include: Reform of the Public Services in Pakistan, Nova Science Publishers, Inc., Hauppauge, New York, US, 2008; Good Governance Reforms Agenda in Pakistan: Current Challenges, Nova Science, New York, US, 2007; The Musharraf regime and the governance crisis: a case study of the Government of Pakistan, Nova Science, New York, US, 2001; and Islamic fundamentalist movements in Pakistan, Egypt and Iran (1995).
He has also contributed over a dozen book chapters and research articles. Sohail has written over 150 articles in various newsmagazines and daily newspapers. Sohail has been contributing articles regularly to thehttp://english.safe-democracy.org/ Safe Democracy Foundation, Madrid, Spain.
