Profile

What motivated you to become involved in peace and conflict resolution?
Commitment to peace, justice and reconciliation: Over the last seven years, Hannes facilitated processes for a prominent Middle East think tank to initiate reforms across the region; he facilitated several joint dialogue initiatives in Sri Lanka and Nepal to help resolve those conflicts and bridge the gaps in perception and understanding. Between 1991 and 1994, Siebert headed the media and youth divisions of the National Peace Secretariat in South Africa, the multi-party body dedicated to reducing violence and promoting dialogue during the tense run-up to the first democratic elections. In the late ‘90s, Siebert was a member of the World Economic Forum’s “Transitions to Peace” initiative on peace-building in South Africa, the Balkans, Northern Ireland and the Middle East. Siebert has been an associate of the Center for War, Peace and the News Media at New York University. In this capacity, he initiated and coordinates the West-Dar al Islam Media Dialogues program, which facilitates dialogue between major media institutions in the U.S. and Middle East. A former newspaper editor and television producer, Siebert still produces children's animation and interactive media projects. He recently helped to launch a children's initiative that supports orphanages in war-torn regions if south Asia, caring for children that are victims of war and human trafficking.

Creating Mechanisms to Manage Peace and Negotiations Processes

The Nepal Transition to Peace (NTTP) Initiative is a national peace support program designed in consultation with the Government of Nepal, its Peace Secretariat, and political parties to build their capacity to engage in the peace process, create an inclusive multi-party dialogue to address all stakeholders’ concerns, and institutionalize government peace structures. Dear Hannes,
I see you from Chiara's list of friends. I am privileged to be able to communicate with you through this network. I see from your profile that you have been doing important works towards conflict resolution, peacebuilding and development in many situations and geographical areas. I think that I have a lot to learn from your insights and learning. Do you see any ethnic dimension in the Nepal situation or take into account ethnic dimension so that ethnic conflict does not occur in Nepal?

I look forward to hearing from you positively.

Warm regards,
Bobichand

Dear Hannes,
Thank you for contacting me. Yes I am a friend of Lisa's, but perhaps you mistake me for someone else as I do not know Adriaan Verheul. I am currently here on a similar contract as Lisa, same sending organisation through CPS, although I work with a different local partner, COCAP.
I do agree that the economic issue will come up, like many others after the CA election results.

Hi Hannes!
Thanks for the invite, and as I am close to Nepal I may just wind up in Kathmandu sometime soon. How's the work going there? I am currently working for UNDP, and so you can no doubt guess the state of my work...

Keep in touch, when you have the time...

Thank you for answering. I think the U.N. is at a point where they are threatened with the viability of the organization if they don't start to take responsibility for their actions. In the last decade they've made some structural changes to create faster responses to large scale human rights violations. The problem still lies, in my opinion, on the sovereignty issue of the Security Council and of course the veto power of the permanent members.

Please feel free to contact me with any questions with which I may be able to help. Chris

Hello.

I hope to open a line of communication with you. It seems we share some common interests so I wanted to make my introduction. I'm Chris from New Orleans. I'm studying Comparative legal systems at Tulane Law School and am very interested in Human Rights and Mediation and Negotiation. Given our common interests this might be a good way to start communication so we can refer to each other in the future. Please take a minute to view my page and leave a message if you like.

peace.

dear hannes

nice to meet you. i agree with you about the people living on the border between bosnia and croatia. it was my first connexion with an enviornment post war (after the war) -even if i still have in mind the Romanian revolution from 1989, even as a kid- and one of the reason that make me stay to work in this field.
about the article, it could be a good idea. do yo have anything specific in mind. i would really like to collaborate with you.
