What motivated you to become involved in peace and conflict resolution?

I am an ABD at the Inst. for Conflict Analysis and Resolution at George Mason, in Arlington, VA. I am a teacher, advocate and policy analyst whose work has focused on policies for ending poverty, strengthening global security and peace education.

I was honored to live and work in Zimbabwe for 6 months with the Peace Corps. I have also studied in Oxford, England. In addition, I did my dissertation field research in Paraguay, and helped to lead a global citizenship education program there.

What are some of your current areas of research (if any)?
My current research includes the necessity of peace education in every school, as well as the impact of land privatization on indigenous communities in Paraguay (the dissertation). Consulting experience includes curriculum reform in developing/transitional countries, especially new democracies, teacher training, capacity building of the educational sector in developing nations, and instructional design.

The First Day

First impressions can mean everything. Committed to establishing from day one that my classroom would be about exploring peace and peacebuilding, I decided to establish a "baseline" with a written response to the question of "What kinds of things do you think cause conflict or violence in our world and our communities?" The Dinosaur Curriculum

One of the few things that actually stuck with me from my teacher ed. courses at Mary Washington was an article called the "Dinosaur Curriculum", which (as the title suggested) decried curriculum that is not--has not been for a while--relevant to kids.

At first I wondered why my new colleague, the art teacher at the youth detention center where I am now on faculty, was so particular about counting the pencils when the POs (parole officers) brought the kids in for orientation before the new school year begins. I would like to share with you news and views about that,
We are running self financed library for community and also involved in social activities like intelactual getto gathers, lectures, debating society, peacebuildings walks and celebrating differnt days as per mentioned in UNO charter.
